President Koroma Vows To Make Western Rural District A Model District In The Country

Primary tabs

Tokeh village, along the Peninsula, in the Western Area was the scene of drumming and jubilation on Friday, 6th May, when residents from the entire Tokeh village and its environs, some coming from as far as Tombo, Bridgett, Kent and Russell Town settlement areas converged at the legendary tourist friendly village to witness   the commissioning of the newly constructed  ultra-modern health centre, the TOKEH-HAN Health Center.

The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr Abu Bakarr Fofanah told the community that when he received the request from the Tokeh people sometime last year for support with an ultra-modern health care facility to complement the existing one which has become too small for the needs of the community, he discussed the issue with His Excellency the President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma. At the same time that the Tokeh people placed their request, there were several other such requests on the table of the President. But because of the special affection that the President has for the Western Rural District and his intention to make the district a model one by the time he leaves office, the President directed that the request from the Tokeh community should be prioritized amidst thunderous applauses.

Following an Accord between the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Korean Medical Peace Foundation, signed on the 18th of June 2015, for a Korean designed and equipped community medical Clinic at Tokeh, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in Freetown has confirmed that the construction of the facility is nearing completion with opening formalities planned for May 2016.

In a communication to Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, His Excellency Ambassador Omrie Golley, from the Minister of Health and Sanitation, the Hon. Dr. A B Fofanah and dated the 12th April 2016, the Minister confirmed that construction of the Medical Facility was nearing completion, and that a shipment of medical supplies and equipment also generously donated by the Korean Foundation was scheduled to arrive in Freetown this week.

Inviting the Ambassador to the planned opening ceremony next month, the Minister extolled the Ambassador’s outstanding efforts in bringing this venture to a reality, further indicating that his presence at the planned opening ceremony, together with officials of the Medical Peace Foundation, would underscore and raise the profile of the already excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.
