ACC Demonstrates its Mandate in WFP Cash Transfer to Ebola Survivors in Kono District

The Anti-Corruption Commission Sub-Regional Office in Kono District from the 22nd to the 24th March, 2016 monitored and provided oversight role in the World Food Programme (WFP) Cash Transfer to Eighty (80) Ebola Survivors in Kono District. The Cash was paid by SPLASH Money Transfer.

Explaining the significance of the Cash Transfer to the beneficiaries and other partners present, the Senior Programme Assistant at WFP, Mr. Daniel Charles noted that the registration of the Ebola Survivors was done by the Ministry of Social welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs and Wealth Hunger Hilfe. He said the beneficiaries are given the money because they were victims of the past Ebola Virus Disease which left them in a helpless situation. Mr. Charles maintained that the money was provided to improve the living standard of the beneficiaries. He admonished all present to stop marginalizing Ebola Survivors but to embrace them in their various communities. Mr. Charles promised his institution’s total support to the Ebola Survivors and encouraged them to utilize the money judiciously. 

In his statement, ACC’s Public Education Assistant, Sahr Nabieu appreciated World Food Programme (WFP) and other partners for coming to the aid of the Ebola Survivors in Kono District. He underscored that the Anti-Corruption Commission is keen about the implementation of Government and Donor projects in all parts of the Country to ensure transparency and accountability in the process. He cautioned all parties involved in the cash distribution process to desist from any corrupt practices as anyone caught will face the full penalty of the AC Act 2008.

The Public Educator encouraged the beneficiaries and community people to report any suspected corruption in the implementation of the project to the Commission through Africell 077-985-985/077-986-986 or Airtel 161 or in person at 25 Alhaji Chewtoh Jalloh Street, Bongalow or any ACC offices in Sierra Leone.
